The principal category of membership for firms, companies, partnerships and sole traders operating as builders, building contractors or specialist contractors is Corporate Membership.
There are also three categories of Personal Membership available
to individuals engaged in the building industry.

Corporate Membership
Corporate membership is open to all builders, building contractors, professional firms and other contractors actively involved in the building industry.  Corporate members may use the logo of the Guild on their stationery, sign boards, vehicles and in advertising material.

Associate Membership (AGBC)
This category is a personal membership for those people who have been engaged in the building industry for a minimum period of two successive years and have either:
1. achieved a recognised building qualification, or
2. been a proprietor, partner or director of a building business, contractor in the building industry, architect, surveyor, engineer or other professional firm for a minimum period of one year, or
3. been employed by a builder, building contractor or other contractor in the building industry for a minimum period of two years, or
4. been employed an architect, surveyor, engineer, other professional firm, Local Authority or similar organisation for a minimum period of two years.
Associate Members may use the letters AGBC after their name.

Membership (MGBC)
This category is also a personal membership which can be applied for by those people who have been engaged in the building industry for a minimum period of three years and have either:
1. achieved a recognised building qualification, or
2. been a proprietor, partner or director of a building business, contractor in the building industry, architect, surveyor, engineer or other professional firm for a minimum period of two years, or
3. been employed in a responsible position by a builder, building contractor or other contractor in the building industry for a minimum period of three years, or
4. been employed in a responsible position by an architect, surveyor, engineer, other professional firm, Local Authority or similar organisation for a minimum period of three years.
Members may use the letters MGBC after their name.

Fellowship (FGBC)
Fellowship is conferred on members who have been engaged in the building industry for a minimum period of five years and who have either:
1. achieved a recognised building qualification, or
2. been a proprietor, partner or director of a building business, contractor in the building industry, architect, surveyor, engineer or other professional firm for a minimum period of three years, or
3. been employed as a manager with a builder, building contractor or other contractor in the building industry for a minimum period of five years, or
4. been employed in a responsible position by an architect, surveyor, engineer, other professional firm, Local Authority or similar organisation for a minimum period of five years.
Fellows may use the letters FGBC after their name.
