The Guild of Builders and Contractors has arranged a debt collection service for its Corporate and Personal Members with a firm of solicitors. Members wishing to use the service complete a Registration Form and provide copies of invoices and correspondence relevant to the debt including any correspondence from the debtor relating to the debt. The solicitor will write to the debtor requiring settlement of the debt within seven days of the date of that letter. If the debt is paid the solicitor will send payment to the Member within ten working days of receipt. If no satisfactory response is received within seven days the solicitor will send a second letter to the debtor warning of impending proceedings. Within twenty eight days of receipt of the Registration Form the solicitor will report to the Member advising him of the situation and giving details of possible future action and costs involved. The total cost of the Debt Collection Service to this stage is £25.00 plus VAT. If the debt is disputed on the basis of workmanship or materials it may be necessary to obtain advice from a Chartered Surveyor or Structural Engineer. The Guild of Builders and Contractors provides a Professional Opinion and Expert Witness Service for its Members. A panel of Chartered Surveyors and Structural Engineers provide an initial consultation on a fixed fee basis and subsequent advice and representation at preferential rates. Details are available from The Guild of Builders and Contractors. The Debt Collection Service and the Professional Opinion and Expert Witness Service have been arranged for Members of The Guild of Builders and Contractors as a benefit for them but The Guild of Builders and Contractors act only as an intermediary and accepts no responsibility for either information given by the Member or advice given by the solicitor or other persons. |
