We are able to help you, not only find a builder, but find a number of other people who can help you with a building project, however large or small. You may for instance need an architect to design whatever you propose building and you may need a quantity surveyor to help you with costing your proposal and entering into a contract with a builder. If your proposals include foundations or other structural work, you may need a structural engineer. You may also need a specialist contractor for example: an electrician, a roofing contractor, plumber, plasterer, kitchen supplier, bathroom specialist, flooring contractor, etc. All of these people can be found on the website easily. When looking for a builder the list that you will be provided with includes builders who are not necessarily Members of the Guild of Builders and Contractors. Those that are members will be clearly indicated. Whichever builder you select to quote for your project you should ask a number of questions to satisfy yourself that the builder is competent and is likely to carry out the work to a high standard. One of the best ways is to ask the builder to provide you with at least three references for work that he has carried out in the recent past. You should then contact each reference that he has provided and perhaps go and see the work that he carried out. This of course is not a guarantee, but it does show that he is capable of completing building work to a satisfactory standard. It is worth pointing out here that the Guild of Builders and Contractors does take up references on all applicants before they are given membership, and there is a complaints procedure which can in extreme cases lead to the expulsion from membership of a Guild Member who does not adhere to the Code of Conduct.
